How can I make my make up look more natural?

I am a black woman with a medium dark complexion. How can I make my make up look natural? I only wear foundation and powder. Also how can I chose a powder that matches my skin color and not make me look a little lighter than what I am?How can I make my make up look more natural?
Many powders contain Talc, which is not very well masked by pigment, and over dark skin will appear white or cloudy.

The problem continues with Mineral powders, they can only make them so dark so it can be frustrating trying to match a darker skin tone.

If your heart is set on Powder, I would recommend trying Jane Iredale. It's a extremely high quality mineral make-up and it comes in liquid and powder form. They are one of few who I have been able to match darker skin tones with.

Bare Escentuals works well for caramel to mocha colored skin, it depends on what your natural undertones are (meaning a cool or yellow base)

Although Liquid make-up is not nearly as good for your skin, it may be your best bet if your having trouble matching powders.

I would recommend going into a Sephora store, and trying to book a consult with someone who has similar skin tone to yours. They will know the best way to match your skin color to a good make-up.

Any powders that contain Talc or Cornstarch will make you look lighter. So avoid products with those ingrediants. How can I make my make up look more natural?
Wow what a coincidence! I was actually at stop and shop yesterday and I saw this new makeup line that caught my eye. It is by Cover Girl, and I believe it's called ';Queen Collection, for woman of color.'; They run in three shades, light medium and dark. Queen Latifah had actually a privilege to work directly with Cover Girl on developing that line.

Here's an article and some reviews:
